旁聽規定：旁聽請徵得教師同意。旁聽者需承諾每週完成指定閱讀、參與課堂討 論。旁聽毋需繳交報告。

I. 課程簡介：人類社會在過去、現在和未來都無法不面對災難，近年氣候劇烈變遷的過程中，災難更是越來越頻繁出現的課題。災難研究是跨學科的領域，其中人類學強調「在地觀點」、「文化視界」、「全貌觀」和「比較的視野」，對災難研究能提出具有洞見的思考。本課程討論的案例包括台灣以及世界其他地區的災難，透過比較與參照，從災難的文化分析、災難民族誌、災難與權力等面向，重新思考什麼是災難、以及人類如何面對/詮釋/再現災難。此外，課程也將帶入災難研究方法與倫理，討論災難研究的困難與對應。
II. 課程要求：
1. 每週指定閱讀：每節上課前請同學閱讀指定文章或書籍，讓該週討論有共同的基礎材料。這堂課設計上以研究所學生為主，但也歡迎大學部高年級選修，將依照學生不同的需求、背景和狀況做調整，因此尚未定稿。大學部學生指定閱讀份量會比較輕鬆，中文讀物的比例也會比較高，但仍需具備閱讀英文論文的能力。課程助理會將閱讀文件放在gmail空間，請自行上網閱覽。
2. 課堂參與討論：這是一門seminar為主的課程，不是老師唱獨角戲，因此同學們的課堂參與非常重要。課堂參與首先當然是要有來上課（雖然不點名，但是人少，顯然蹺課一定會被發現，所以特殊理由要請假請先告知）。再來是要發言而且言之有物。一種發言是針對閱讀提出綜合摘要，另一種發言則是提出問題、批評、和案例比較。
3. 作業：分為平日、小作業和期末作業三項。請見下面的詳細說明。
III. 評分原則：
1. 平日的功夫 40%： 綜合學生在每週指定閱讀下的功夫、和課堂參與的程度評分。教師會請同學就核心閱讀的文章填一個簡表作為隨堂功課。對課程討論的「貢獻度」是這門課可以run的重要因素，發言的質和量都很重要。教師不會點名，不過老是沒來上課，貢獻度就不足了。（這樣了解了吧？）
2. 一個小作業 10%： 總是要有比較不那麼嚴肅的作業吧？這門課的一個小作業是看一部災難電影（自選），寫兩頁討論，並在第四週課堂與同學分享。這是為了後面更多的分析做練習。如果你不太喜歡災難電影，那麼另一個選擇是上YouTube找幾段關於災難的新聞報導，或挑一本以災難為背景的小說，作為分析的素材。
3. 綜合整門課的研究計畫 50%： 學期末，該是展現同學們在這門課的累積的時候了，綜合統整的能力在學習中是不可或缺的。期末作業請同學設計一個關於災難的研究計畫，選擇一個事件（可以是過去、國內外任何災難，也可以是虛擬的），作為研究的對象，同時也選擇一個要討論的課題（例如災後重建的爭議、災難記憶的產業化），還有擬進行的研究方式，撰寫一篇研究計畫書。內容包括背景說明、問題意識、文獻回顧、研究方法與倫理、預算編列、參考書目等。如果同學未來想做災難研究，這篇大綱是很好的草稿；如果不打算做災難研究，作業過程也是很好的模擬練習，對未來寫自己要做的研究題目有幫助。若是大學部同學不想寫研究計畫，可以和教師討論其他合適的作業。

Week 1 2/26 課程介紹
建議有考慮修課的同學最好來一趟。一來教師會談這門課設計的理念，並且講清楚龜毛的規定和獲得高分的秘訣。無誠勿試。再者，教師很需要知道同學修課的動機、需求、閱讀能力等，才能儘快調整每週閱讀材料，甚或修改課程設計。
Week 2 3/5 災難研究：切入的幾種可能，以及人類學研究的視野
災難不只是災難現場和災後重建。這堂課我們先暖身，從八八水災和九二一地震之後的一些討論起手，共同探看有哪些論述的角度、和討論的課題？而人類學又能提供怎樣獨特的視野？（如果同學們對人類學還不太熟悉，這堂課將會提供基礎介紹。）
閱讀與作業：請選擇一篇自己覺得希望分享討論的文章，於3月2日睡覺前傳給老師，彙整後放在gmail空間，於課堂前閱覽、準備討論。

Week 4 3/19 風險（risk）、危險（danger）、氣候變遷：文化觀點

Week 5 3/26 災難的想像與再現：從洪水傳說、災難電影到新聞媒體
災難的文化詮釋中，另一個重要的面向是對災難的想像，以及再現，影響了人類如何面對災難、如何評估災難。這堂課我們從各種媒介切入，包括傳說、電影、新聞和網路，思考這些傳播媒介如何被文化形塑、又如何形塑一套災難的文化心理。

Week 7 4/9 災難與衝突：政治、法律、國家
災難如同照邀鏡，揭露了社會中各種權力關係（例如族群、種族、階級）。國家權力介入救援和重建，但有時也讓災民覺得是國家暴力或國家無力。災後階段法律往往成為另一個戰場。這個議題下週民族誌將延續做更多的討論。

本週選的民族誌是災難社會學的經典案例 Everything in its Path: Destruction of Community in the Buffalo Creek Flood (by Kai Erikson) 。（這和「災難人類學」的課名毫無衝突，反而是很好的參照。）
閱讀整本災難民族誌，而非單篇論文，比較能完整的看到作者如何進去做研究、如何將事件放在歷史、社會和文化脈絡中，以及事件的演變。

Week 9 4/23 災難與NGO
災難發生後的救援團隊除了國家派遣，也常見來自世界各地的各種團體，而NGO組織更在災後重建扮演越來越重要的角色。然而其與地方文化的杆疙、各方利益的衝突，也越來越受到注目。八八水災後慈濟和一些部落對於是否遷村的爭論即是清楚的例子。本週我們透過幾項全球的案例，反思台灣的發展模式。

Week 12 5/14 災難與記憶：敘事、博物館與紀念地景
對於災難的記憶，關於災難的敘說，無論以有形（博物館、紀念碑）或無形（故事、身體記憶）的形式呈現，不是災難的句點，而是過程的一部分。不同人群有不同的災難記憶方式，這堂課討論災難記憶的文化。

Week 16 6/11 災難人類學研究回顧
這週的讀物是災難人類學牛耳的兩位學者，Anthony Oliver-Smith和Hoffmann書寫的災難人類學研究回顧文章。
大家一定覺得很奇怪，這不是通常學期初會排的題目？然而根據我的經驗，此類回顧型論文固然可以讓我們進入新的領域時有些概念、方向，還有參考書目，但在第一週念的時候，其實對完全陌生的讀者來說有些吃力，也很抽象。等到我們已經念了不少東西再讀，其實會更有Fu，也比較不會被回顧文設定的框架帶著走。透過這個過程，我們會一起回顧本學期閱讀過的文章和書，也為期末要交的研究報告「文獻回顧」部分做準備。
